Cate Laverty IS A STORYTELLER, PASSIONATE ABOUT BRINGING IDEAS TO LIFE THROUGH EXPRESSIVE VISUALS.
Hi, I’m Cate! I’m a Junior at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, pursuing a major in Studio Art with a concentration in Communication Design and a minor in Film & Media Studies. I’m also a member of Skidmore’s Periclean Honors Forum, a selective academic program emphasizing intellectual engagement and community leadership, which keeps me deeply involved in both creative and academic growth.
I’m especially passionate about visual storytelling across mediums. In Fall 2024, I studied abroad at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), where I worked on a 16mm short film and gained hands-on experience in cinematography, production design, and collaborative filmmaking. Alongside my studio practice, I previously worked as a Museum Guide at the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, where I supported exhibitions and engaged directly with contemporary art and public audiences. This experience strengthened my interest in how design, narrative, and visual culture intersect across film and fine art.
An alum of Episcopal High School, a co-educational boarding school in Washington, DC, I served as Editor-in-Chief of the Whispers yearbook, Features Editor for The Chronicle newspaper, and a contributor to The Damon art and literary magazine. In 2022, I received a Scholastic Gold Key Award for my sculpture Mark Me Up, and from November 2022 to February 2024, I worked as the Amherst College Men’s Lacrosse Graphic Design Intern, creating graphics for the team’s social media presence.
I’m proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and have professional training in drawing and painting. At the core of my work is a love for blending design, fine art, and film to create thoughtful, visually driven storytelling.
