Battery Booklet
Brand design project, 2024
Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, hand-stamped patterns (ink and gouache), scanned into Photoshop
Created for my Communication Design class, this project asked us to select an everyday object and build a complete visual system around it. I chose AA and AAA batteries from both Duracell and Energizer, which allowed for more freedom in color and style. I began by using the batteries as tools for mark-making, stamping and rolling them in black gouache to create textures that scanned well into Photoshop. The concentric circles on the tops of the batteries became my primary motif, shaping a cohesive set of patterns and vector icons developed in Illustrator. I designed the final accordion-fold booklet in InDesign, which includes my patterns, icons, object keywords, a brief description of alkaline batteries, and duotoned photographs in orange and blue. The palette, light blue, bright orange, black, and light peach, captures the metallic and energetic qualities of the batteries while emphasizing their circular and electrical forms.
